Miriandhoo, Maldives.

First, let me say that the Maldives has been my dream destination. Any time I imagine the ultimate, tropical experience, I think of the villas on the islands in the Maldives. The exclusivity of flying onto the island by seaplane and having a private villa over the ocean embodies luxury, and we decided the honeymoon was the best opportunity to partake in this rare experience.

A few important things to note about the Maldives, especially during covid: alcohol cannot be carried into the country, but it is available on the resort islands; you cannot visit the main island and come onto the resort island unless you get another covid test, so plan to go directly to the resort island; to get to the resort island, you have to charter a seaplane – the resort may do that on your behalf; and because a seaplane must be chartered to travel to and from the island, your experience will be restricted to what’s available on that island. With this knowledge, we chose Miriandhoo, because it had the perfect mix of what we were looking for on our honeymoon: relaxation – not an overwhelming amount of activities to partake in (because when there is a lot to do, we always try to do it all), ocean villa, water activities and good, authentic food.

We spent most of our days lounging around on the patio of our villa, but we also kayaked on the Indian Ocean, snorkeled, and dipped in the pool. There were other activities available, such as water skiing, tennis, etc, but we wanted to do as little as possible while taking advantage of the amenities. The island had four restaurants to choose from for daily meals, and they were delicious. We went to Island Kitchen, which offered traditional Maldivian food, for breakfast and a couple of dinners, Sunset Bar for nice cocktails and finger foods, and The Pearl for a nice, fancy sushi dinner before we departed.

We did the Maldives/honeymoon experience exactly how we wanted, but if I were to return, I would want to visit what’s available on the main island, Malé, and visit another resort for an underwater restaurant.
