Santiago, Chile.

My first international trip. Several students and I traveled to Santiago, Chile, for a short-term study abroad. I had an AMAZING time; it was truly an unforgettable experience. We attended presentations and tours of local businesses in the Santiago area. To name a few of the companies: PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC HR asked me to assist them with their presentation because I’d told them I interned, and they felt I’d be able to help them reach the audience), John Deere, Banigualdad (meaning “Bank of Equality”, a microfinancing not-for-profit organization helping finance low income entrepreneurial women), Undurraga Winery (discussion on wine industry in Chile: marketing, production, etc. as well as taste testing), a natural power plant at a Yacht Club in Vina Del Mar, Chile, Agrosuper (Chilean food company), and Minera Los Pelambres (a mining company).

Other activities included a tour of Valparaiso, Chile, visiting Los Cipreses School for underprivileged children and visiting an ex-torture camp (it was the site where prisoners of the Cold War in 1973-1978 were captured and tortured). In addition, whenever we had free time, we walked around to absorb the culture by visiting restaurants, talking to natives and going to the clubs/parties. Fun fact: The legal drinking age there is 18.
